Laura Chasteen, MS RDN
Compassionate nutrition counseling, evidenced based Medical Nutrition Therapy
Welcome! I'm a Seattle based Registered Dietitian Nutritionist. I see patients virtually through a secure Telehealth platform.

I support people of all ages for a variety of life cycle and medical concerns.

I support adolescents (age 11+) and adults in the treatment and management of eating disorders, sub-diagnostic disordered eating, and strained relationships to food and body.

Laura's Approach

My approach is individual to you.

Nuanced health and nutrition concerns? Feeling unknown by your health care team?
Let's find what works for you.
We'll build the skills and knowledge you'll need to meet your nutrition needs through your dynamic life.

My approach is weight-neutral.

Science and experience show us prescriptive diets and short term weight loss plans don't work. They can damage our metabolism and strain our relationship with food and our bodies.
Together, we'll find strategies to support your health and meet your goals without prescriptive diets.
How many diets have you tried?

My approach is rooted in science.
Frustrated by conflicting nutrition advice? Guessing about nutrition and your health?
I'll help you understand your physiology and metabolism, and help you navigate complicated nutrition science to understand how it applies to you.

Laura's Approach to Eating Disorder Care
I support adolescents (age 11+) and adults in the treatment and management of Anorexia Nervosa, Atypical Anorexia, Bulimia Nervosa, Binge Eating Disorder, OFSED, and AFRID.
For adolescent patients, I often apply the principles of Family Based Therapy (FBT) unless otherwise indicated. FBT is an evidence-based eating disorder treatment modality that empowers parents and caregivers to manage their child's recovery at home.
For adults, I use an individualized approach that includes skills borrowed from Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) and principles of harm reduction to help you meet your nutrition needs.

In general, I see patients with eating disorders who are medically stable as defined by their primary or speciality medical provider and are well supported by a therapist or counselor.

Fees and Insurance
My services are usually reimbursable through commercial health insurance plans as an "out of network" provider. Insurance coverage for nutrition services varies from plan to plan. I recommend using this script to verify your out of network insurance benefits and to be aware of any out of pocket costs ahead of your first appointment.
My patients pay my below rates at the time of service, then I provide a biweekly or monthly superbill and appropriate documentation for their insurance to reimburse them based on the terms of their individual plan. This means most of my patients are not paying the below rates completely out of pocket and are using their out of network benefits to reimburse themselves.

My services are HSA and FSA eligible.
As of Winter 2026, I'm in the (often long) process of paneling with major commercial health insurance companies in Washington State. Once I'm paneled with your insurance, I'll be "in network" and I'll bill your insurance directly.
